Dark Sea

The Dark Sea is an area of the Living Ocean. It is located along the northeastern coast of Ardann i'Parastha, north of Vadriz and south of the Frozen Sea. The name has several meanings. First, the area is nearly always overcast -- seeing the sun is so rare that sailors here take it as a bad omen and will drop anchor immediately upon seeing it. Perhaps surprisingly, however, violent storms are rare. There's a certain grey stillness to the water that some sailors claim is hypnotic, lulling one into a sense of security that leads one to their doom if they're not careful.

That's because the second reason for the Dark Sea's name is more ominous. The area is known to be home to a number of ill-tempered creatures, including several morkoths and, if rumors are to be believed, sea serpents. The waters here are also darker than any other part of the Living Ocean, which makes it a prime hunting ground for beasts lurking beneath the waves.
