Detect chaos

The detect chaos spell discovers emanations of chaos, or of law in the case of its reverse, detect law from any creature, object, or area. Personal alignment, however, is revealed only under unusual circumstances: characters who are strongly aligned, who do not stray from their faith, and who are powerful might radiate law or chaos if intent upon appropriate actions. Powerful monsters send forth emanations of chaos or law.

The degree of chaos (dim, faint, moderate, strong, or overwhelming) can be noted. If the chaos is overwhelming, the priest may be able to detect its general bent (good, neutral, or evil). The priest must concentrate for at least one minute to receive a reading.
