Alwin Batross

Alwin Batross (or more commonly Al Batross) is a Human fighter who currently serves as Captain of the ship Neptune's Bane, which sails out of Tym Bukh'tu. He is the most famous seaman in the northwestern Lanad, and has twenty years at sea under his belt.

Background

The Fisheye

Born in Kat Mahn Du, Al Batross started his career on a small schooner that sailed out of Tym Bukh'tu. He was often praised for his bravery, but had an unhealthy love for reckless excitement.

He soon struck out on his own, and joined the crew of the Fisheye under Cogswell Cutler. Although he and Captain Cutler did not often see eye to eye, he was eventually promoted to First Mate, the position he held until the Fisheye was lost at sea nine years ago. He was the only survivor of the wreck, although he was able to rescue the ship's cat, Ratkur, and bring it to Cutler's widow, who thanked him by selling him the ship's salvage rights.

The Storm Breaker

Batross used the proceeds from the Fisheye's cargo, along with some savings, to purchase his own vessel, the Storm Breaker. With this vessel, he returned to Tym Bukh'tu, where he led the city's defense against the Seven Fleets of Jahm Bah'laeia, preventing them from landing and attacking the city. This made a name for him, and he received a rich reward, allowing him to select only those jobs he wished to undertake -- in his case, only the most dangerous.

A few years later, Batross was hired by the Sultan of Agrabah to retrieve a prized statue that had been lost in Neptune's Triangle. Although he was able to salvage the statue with the aid of Aladdin, his ship was destroyed by Selene, the water elemental princess.

Neptune's Bane

With his payment from the Sultan, Batross was able to purchase an even larger, more ostentatious ship. To show that his previous loss would not stop him, he named his new ship the Neptune's Bane.
