The city of Arek lies in the southwestern corner of Arin, a day's journey north of the Thair Mountains. For many years, it was the center of the vast Onyx Empire, a post of strategic importance along the Pandem River and main base of the Onyx Army. Prior to that, it was the capital of Arin, ruled by the House of Floyd.
Most of Arek was destroyed during the Wars of Arin, and the capital was moved temporarily to Floyk. With the monarchy restored, King Lloyd IX has decreed that the city shall be rebuilt, and the royal palace shall be grander than ever.
