Nancy Arable is a Human farmer from the town of Opaik, and the sister of its most prominent citizen, Homer Zuckerman. She and her husband John run a farm in the village of Promise Junction, having moved there from Opaik along with their two children, Avery, their elder son, and Fern, their younger daughter. Mrs. Arable is very protective of her impressionable daughter and doesn't approve of her spending so much of her free time with the family's juvenile farmhand, Lenin.
