Aristolemus is the second son of Decadremus, Earl of Tremasset. He was something of a child prodigy, as he was accepted to the Jar-Kahni School of Arcane Knowledge at the age of 15, the second-youngest human ever admitted to that prestigious institution. He acquitted himself quite well there -- though he did not focus his studies on any particular area, he was well known as a scholar and a favorite of at least a couple of professors for his thoughtful contributions.
After several years of study there, he ventured out into the world. His father assigned him a bodyguard, a Dwarf named Muldün, who accompanied him on his first adventure. While in Morelenas, Aristolemus visited Valce, a friend of his father's, who told him of a party that would be journeying across the sea to the south, and he took the opportunity to join them.
After that, the young mage had had his fill of adventuring, and returned to the scholarly life. Most recently, he was invited to study at the University Al Maneera in Rogariel. Few people have had the opportunity to study at both Jar-Kahn and Al Maneera, so of course the mage accepted the offer.
