Akivri Beyla Kai is a hengeyokai thief who has the ability to shape-shift into a cat. Beyla, as she is commonly known these days, grew up in a remote area of the Onyl Mountains in northeastern Jiberia. She was taught to hunt, track and developed her skills with the shuriken under the instruction of her great aunt Muyuri. She often visited Nede, a Human village of the Tiger clan located on a high mountain lake. There she eventually made a few friends who taught her more about the races other than Hengeyokai.

When she came of age Akivri, being more social than many other Hengeyokai, was encouraged to leave the home range to satisfy her great curiosity in the wider world. So, when the first traders came that spring she joined their pack train as a scout and began her travels. She spent the next few years going from village to city to country fair. She enjoyed learning bits and pieces from the places she went from those people she met in her wanderings. She also learned to hide what she was -- those living in her home range may have been tolerant of her kind, but she found that it was often not so in the lands beyond.

Akivri inadvertently began her training as a thief when she befriended DarTharin Findril, a bard who regularly traveled with the traders. She picked up the things he taught her quickly and successfully completed the few tasks he asked of her. One day, on reaching the city of Northill, The bard received news that forced him to immediately head to Hyrogoth instead of continuing on to Porton. Seeing potential in Akivri and trusting her, he asked her to do him a favor and deliver a letter and package to Rogan, a contact in Porton. Akivri made the delivery, not knowing that Rogan was an old friend of Dar's. This friend also happened to be well placed in the Thieves' Guild of Porton, and Dar's letter recommended Akivri to him. On this recommendation Rogan asked Akivri to do some tasks for him, testing her with out her ever knowing. He found her able and offered her further training in exchange for doing a few more jobs. Akivri thought it over, deciding that since she liked the challenge, liked Rogan, and wanted to learn more about tricks and traps and such, she took the offer and now makes good use of these skills.

Akivri stays in touch with Rogan and often takes odd jobs from him and his friends, but she does not intend to tie herself to his guild -- or any other -- any time soon. Still, Rogan has offered and that door stands open if she ever wishes to settle. She thinks it is a generous offer and for some, fences do make good neighbors. However, Akivri finds the very idea of joining a guild too restrictive, so she will take the roads and wilds for now.

Recently, she met SpringRite and his adventuring group in Jar-Kahn and accepted an offer to join that group. During their journey on the Daikigyou, she has served as ship's cat to pay for her passage. Her knowledge of the region and ability to speak Jiberish proved quite handy during their journey, but she and the others have since gone their separate ways.
