Veclinnius

The city of Veclinnius is the most populous city in Tanilon, and a trading and cultural center of the northern MidLands. Today, it is the center of a small kingdom that bears the same name, and is the chief rival to Shadius as the central city of the region. Its ruler, Viallin, has declared that he will never allow the city to be ruled by the Palomedes family.

Veclinnius was founded over four hundred years ago by the explorer Veclin in the outer foothills of the eastern spur of the Onyl Mountains, near the headwaters of the Tevinnis River. From this city, Veclin traveled north through the mountains, discovering the strategically important Gap of Veclin and expanding the borders of the then-new nation of Tanilon.

Veclinnius was the only city in Tanilon that was never conquered by the Onyx Empire, although it was cut off from all its allies during most of the Wars of Arin. When the rest of Tanilon fell under the dominion of Zathmore and later Daelras, the capital stood fast, guarding the southern end of the Gap. After the wars, however, Tanilon did not reunite, and remains splintered.
