Nine Families

The Nine Families are the descendants of the original settlers of the island of Transha several hundred years ago. Each family rules their own section of the island, and they only come together to make decisions that affect the entire island. Generally, when one refers to a family, they simply call it "The (family name)" -- for instance, "The Australe" or "The Fortenth".
