Not much is known today about the ancient city of Pretic. There is little dispute that it did actually exist somewhere in the northern part of Ardann i'Parastha, and that it was destroyed in a cataclysm that nearly destroyed all of Ardrana. However, the details of it are lost in the mists of time.

What is known

Legends tell that Pretic was a great Elven city, with buildings that were as tall as the trees of their original home. It was even known as the City of the Trees, though it is unclear whether the tradition of Elves using that as the name of many of their cities predates Pretic's use of the moniker or whether that came later. Some believe that the city was built around one single Tree, the largest on Ardrana at the time, and which is today represented by the constellation Vorald, the Tree, in which Varice is found at the Vernal Equinox.

The Pretians were a people of science, not of magic, and the followers of Malarik claim that was their downfall (the followers of Mastepha, of course, say otherwise), and that they were either destroyed by the Ardic gods or perhaps they destroyed themselves. The Lanad Calendar is said to date from that time, which is referred to in ancient records as the dawn of the Third Civilization.

"We Who Watch"

We Who Watch, a sect of the followers of Mastepha, believe that Pretic will one day rise again. Specifically, they believe that Pretic once stood on the spot where the city of Imor is built today. Therefore, they watch the heavens, specifically the moon that bears their deity's name, waiting for that return.
