Slug

Slug was the premier assassin of the days of the Wars of Arin. His origins are as mysterious as he was, but it is generally thought that he was born somewhere in Tanilon, sometime before that country was rent asunder by its battles against the Onyx Empire. It may even be that he was born during those days, as he had orcish features, and may have been the result of the raping of a human woman of Tanilon by a member of the Onyx Army.

In his younger days, he rapidly rose through the ranks, carrying out a series of seemingly impossible missions designed by his Guildmaster to get rid of him (as he saw Slug as a threat -- rightly so, as it turned out). Eventually, Slug was able to eliminate the Guildmaster and take over the guild. He had every assassin loyal to his predecessor slain or driven out, and proceeded to raise the profile of his guild, offering their services -- and on rare occasion, his personal services -- to any and all.

In the end, he was approached by Delgon, general of the Onyx Army, to perform a very difficult task: to assassinate Thorin Archer, king of the Dwarves of the Thair Mountains. Though the directive came from Morjec, the highest ranking minion of Keraptis, Delgon had a personal stake in the matter, as Thorin had tried to kill him some months previous at an archery competition. The price was high, but Delgon met it, and Slug took the mission. Slug in fact did score a killing blow on the king, but Zorg made it onto the scene before the body could be destroyed, and dueled with the Grandmaster Assassin. Zorg scored what looked like a fatal blow, but the assassin vanished. He has not been seen since, and indeed it is likely that Slug was killed by the mighty paladin.
