Kellanic Catacombs

The Kellanic Catacombs are large, man-made underground areas that have been discovered over the past fifty years beneath Kellan. Their origins are unknown, but they are believed to have been created magically. Many hold that they were created by Morjec during the Wars of Arin, as many of these areas were used by him to send the legions of the Onyx Empire into areas around Hanmer, Morelenas, Shethkor, and other cities of the SouthLands. However, others believe at least some of them were created far earlier, perhaps even by the same delvers who created the UnderWorld, to which at least some of the catacombs are attached.

During the Wars of Arin, the catacombs were the bane of the White Alliance in their fight against Keraptis. The first one was discovered just a few miles north of Morelenas itself, where land defenses were weak. The forces there, led by Zorg and Murphy Pallianor, were able to hold off the troll, bugbear and orcish forces that spilled out of it, but only barely, and over five hundred soldiers were lost in the attack. From that point, Zorg and Roderick Harper led a task force to find such entries, with over forty being eventually discovered and cleared out. Even after Keraptis' defeat, one has occasionally been discovered by accident in the less-settled areas of the land, posing threats to the surrounding area.
