Following Fasir's Warning

From Ardrana

This adventure began in Agropthos, following the return of Corelda and her party from their mission to recover stolen merchandise from a band of marauders.

The warning

Shortly after this return, Gillek was examining a statue of a one-eyed creature he'd found while doing some mining, and he was approached by a mysterious old man, who turned out to be the seer Fasir. He told Gillek that creatures such as that were roaming the land, and at this very moment were threatening the life of his friend, Alysten. Gillek did not believe this at first, but Fasir also told him that eventually, the creatures, known as the Maluur, would also eventually wish to attack his homeland in the Thair Mountains. This convinced Gillek to accompany his friends on the journey, at least so that this information could be brought to his countrymen.

Taking a shortcut

Fortunately, there was a passage beneath the Thair Mountains that would serve as a shortcut to Shael i'Vor, where Alysten was studying to become a wild mage. The party traveled for several days before reaching Braith, where Gillek was granted an audience with Dorin the Axeman, the general of the Dwarven army. Gillek told him of Fasir's pronouncement, and while he was skeptical, Dorin decided to command Gillek to discover more about these creatures. Additionally, a rogue named Ismine Corialis was assigned to help the party get through the UnderWorld more quickly.

The party continued, but were intercepted by a band of githyanki, who demanded that they turn over a rod they had found during a previous raid on a temple of Kuraliskar. Battle ensued, and the githyanki fled. The party decided that things would go more quickly if they invoked the rod, which had the ability to sustain a number of people within for an extended period. Once inside the rod, the party discovered a mysterious box, which they suspected was the githyanki's true target.

While traveling, the party discovered a bit about the nature of the box, including the fact that it responded to questions. It called itself "The Box", and said that in order to answer certain questions, the party needed to use "The Word". Little else was discovered, however, because as the party reached the end of the tunnel, the githyanki appeared again. This time, Gilbert Sullivan tricked them by giving them a phony rod, allowing the party to escape.

In Shael i'Vor

At that point, Andy and Paul, who had accompanied the party from Agropthos, left the group. Shortly thereafter, the brothers met a Gnome named Stubbletoff, who was looking to join a group, and directed him to Corelda. With their new addition, the party arrived in Varringe, a town along the Vorilon River. There, they met Shimwell Maranthis, a young half-Elf who had had a vision of Alysten and Molbo taking part in a battle in the forest. She, too, joined the group.

The party entered Shael i'Vor and encountered a band of wild Elves. After telling them their wood was in danger, they assigned one of their number, Fiona, to be the party's new guide. A new guide in place, Ismine bade the group farewell so that he might return to Braith. Fiona did not get along well with her charges, and especially did not take kindly to Gillek and his axe. Before long, though, there was a new threat -- the githyanki returned, having discovered Gilbert's deception, and demanded the rod anew. Gilbert used his charm to convince them that the party had sold the rod in Varringe, but not before the githyanki slew Fiona.

Interrupting the field trip

The party arrived at Lassomaranza, the magical nexus where the Maluur were supposed to attack. There, the party found Alysten with a group of students from the Serrian School of Wild Magic. The party stuck around, waiting for the Maluur's arrival, and Molbo began a pre-battle ritual involving the making of a soup from the most powerful cheeses of Odiferous. Unfortunately, this attracted a purple worm, which attacked the camp. The worm killed Stubbletoff and Damien, and a fireball cast by one of the professors accidentally killed Shimwell as well. This prompted a group of Elves, who had deigned to allow the class to take place in that spot, to command the group to leave. While the Maluur did attack later, the mission was deemed something of a success as Alysten was rescued.
